Best Mouse Traps – To Kill or Catch and Release Mice

By now you know that one of the best ways to get rid of mice in your house is to use mouse traps.  If you only have a few mice you can catch them all in one night using the right traps placed on an active runway.

Over the last few years I have spent hundreds of hours researching and testing mouse traps to see which ones work best. I have narrowed the different types of mouse traps down to four categories which will meet the needs of most people who are looking to either kill or catch and release mice.

  1. Snap Traps
  2. Live-Catch Traps
  3. Electronic Traps
  4. Glue Traps

Electronic traps and glue traps did not test well and were ineffective in my opinion. As such, in good conscious I can not recommend these types of mouse traps to you. They were somewhat effective but your money, time, and effort would be put to better use if you focus your attention on learning how to use snap and live-catch traps.

What Is The Best Bait For Mouse Traps?

Your traps will be less than effective, some people would even say useless without some good bait. Don’t think you can place any old bait in your trap to catch a mouse. Mice are a lot smarter than you think. They will not just eat anything, especially when other food sources are available, which is likely the case in your home now since you have a rodent problem.

Mice have to be enticed with the right bait. So what type of bait should you place in your traps? Sorry to say that cheese in not an effective bait for trapping mice.

I have personally found peanut butter to be the most effective bait. In all of our test and what we have found through research peanut butter is hands down the best bait for catching a mouse. Peanut butter is the only food that has consistently tricked mice night after night into taking the bait.

Peanut butter is the ideal bait and what you want to use if you ready to trap mice and get them out of your home or off your property. If peanut butter does not work, we have found the second best bait to be nesting materials. Shredded fabric, installation, paper, or string are all excellent nesting materials for mice. Instead of peanut butter, you can set your trap with these items. The mice will walk unexpectedly into your trap to get to these materials in order to build their nest.
